|The Kutsop family has a rich tradition in smoked sausage products. Joseph and Pauline Kutsop, grandparents of the current owner Joseph Kutsop, were Austrian immigrants who came to the U.S. in 1905. They brought with them their family recipes and tradition for smoked kielbasi which was enjoyed by several generations in Austria. Their products were sold commercially for the first time in 1945 when their oldest son, Peter, opened Kutsop's Banner Food Store. Peter took pride in adhering to the family recipe and smoking the old fashion way in a "pit" smokehouse. In 1955 he built a new, larger store that incorporated an attached "block" smokehouse which handled hundreds of tons of smoked kielbasi over a period of 45 years.|
Today Joe, his family and employees are all committed to producing high quality, old fashioned products. All sausage products use natural casings, the purest spices with no fillers or artificial ingredients. There is no automated linking or stuffing, every ring, stick or link is handmade resulting in a truly unique product. In 2000 a new German smokehouse was added to insure consistent quality and comply with FDA regulations. All products are genuine smoked using hickory and cherry wood, resulting in maximum natural flavor and preservation. Liquid smoke is never used.
